Chapter 18:
The Bay
“I will remind you that the global congress has voted against creating false cities filled with mechanical men,” said the Judge.
“But you still fund SETI,” countered Myers the lawyer for E.T.O. Extraterrestrials Exist Organization.
“SETI is no longer used to search for little green men Mr. Meyers. It is used for more serious and practical scientific applications.” said the Judge.
“We will get funding and go city to city,” said the counsel of E.T.O. “This is a matter of global security and you are endangering the lives of citizens of this planet.”
“Can you please clarify what you just said?” ordered the Judge
” E.T.O.’s plan of survival is designed to divert an attack on the planet. It could save billions of lives. Can I approach your seat?”
The judge allowed the lawyer to approach. The lawyer for E.T.O. pulls out his cell phone and puts on a video of explosions in space.
“Star fleet just posted this information. There is a war going on in space. Look it is all over the news.”
“This is a short barrister and from CNN of all places. You want me to believe this? ” asked the judge
“It is true. We have connections with Star Fleet.” said Myers
“I will have to speak with Star Fleet Command,” said the Judge “And I am going to find out the truth. Do you want to submit this short as evidence for your little plot? “
“No, I don’t,” said the the lawyer for E.T.O. withdrawing his phone, “But if it turns our that I am right, you will not be able to get a job as line judge in a kids tennis match. “
“If you are right about anything, I will hang myself.” said the Judge.
“Your second appeal has been denied.” finished the Judge “A third one is costly. It will cost your organizations a million dollars for every year it continues.”
“It used to only be a million dollar flat fee,” said the lawyer for the E.T.O.
“Your group can afford it. I don’t know why you ask for support from citizens.”
“Because it is in the people’s best interests.” said the lawyer for the E.T.O..
